Annie's "Don't Worry" Page

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
~Philippians 4:6~

Don't you just hate it when someone tells you to do something but not HOW????

Well this page is one that I hope you will visit often. You can even print the page out and then put it by the computer. It has some practical steps on "how NOT to worry".

FIRST ask yourself:
What good can come from you worrying & fretting about this?
The answer will and should be NOTHING!!!

NEXT ask yourself:
Can you change or fix the situation by getting all upset?
The answer will and should be NO!!!!!!!!

THEN ask yourself:
What will happen to you IF you worry or fret about this?
The answer will be that it will make you sick and more upset.

OK so we know that it isn't easy to NOT worry.
It's almost natural to worry and stress out over something that we have no control over. BUT remember that The Lord is omnipotent and omniscient. He is in control of ALL things. He doesn't need your help to FIX the problem either.

If you aren't suppose to WORRY
what are you suppose to do?

1: STOP & BREATHE
2: Say a QUICK brief "Help me prayer".
3: Quote Bible verses that you know OUT LOUD!!!
4: If you don't have any memorized then grab your Bible and READ the Psalms outloud.

Now that you have calmed down a little..........

What CAN you do instead?

When ever we are told in the Bible NOT to do something then right after it we are told what to do.

Let's check that out in the Bible:

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

John 14:28 "Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I."

OK so we are NOT to "be troubled" or "be afraid"
and we ARE to "rejoice"!

So next time when you are troubled, worried or afraid remember to REJOICE and BE THANKFUL. So what can you be thankful for?

Philippians 4:6 says "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (I always thought it was be anxious but I just checked it and it is indeed careful).

So the NOT or DON'T in this verse is "Be careful for nothing"
and then the DO is "in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know unto God".

Do you see how this premise works? Pretty amazing isn't it.

I always would use the example about "be not drunk with wine". Everyone would stop at the BE NOT and forget the DO. The next verse tells you what to do INSTEAD:

Ephesians 5:18 - "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God."

It's called the "Don't then Do" premise!
Don't fret or worry Do....
Be NOT anxious BUT be.....

Sometimes is would just be easier to put up a "Gone Fishing" sign on the door and hide! But maybe these practical tips will help you deal with things a little better next time.

Practical Tips & Hints:

1: Music can help you calm down and relax.
2: Singing is even better because it releases natural endorphins.
3: Breathe deeply with your mouth closed and through your nose.
4: Have you eaten today? When we don't eat it really does effect our mind, body and spirit. You might want to consider having some Ensure in the fridge for those days when you forget to eat. Helps bring the blood sugar up and it is good for you too.
5: Are you a "people pleaser"? Time to maybe consider that this is not making you happy at all.
6: Learn to say NO and have boundaries.
7: Remember that you CAN'T make everyone happy or please everyone.
8: Memorize Bible verses about "trusting the Lord" and use the Word of God as your armor. "Put on the whole armor of God".
9: When you have a ministry or use your gifts and abilities that the Lord has given you there WILL be spiritual warfare and you need to prepare for it. Don't let one negative email overshadow 99 good ones.
10: You are accountable for yourself and your life. It's hard to help others if you need help yourself.
11: It is not your responsibility to fix everyone else's problems. Trust the Lord to care for them and help if you can but don't do it at the expense of your own health and peace of mind.

Now you can plan ahead
so that this doesn't happen again

1: Pray about this character trait in your regular prayer life.
2: Trusting the Lord and being Patient is not an easy task.
3: Remember that all you can do is to: Do the best that you can do and leave the rest with the Lord.
4: Start memorizing Bible verses.
5: Write out the Bible verses on index cards so you can have them handy.

Learn to put up boundaries so that stress won't make you sick! Don't always say YES to everything that everyone asks of you. If you don't have time to spend in prayer and Bible study then maybe you need to rethink your priorities. Sometimes you have to give yourself permission to just be quiet and listen to what the Lord is trying to say to you. Remember that you can't change others. Real change has to come from the Lord by the convicting of the Holy Spirit and not you.
