Annie's President's Day Page
President's Day will be on: Monday February 15th, 2010
President's Day is always the 3rd Monday in February!

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and
pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear
from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and
will heal their land."
~2 Chronicles 7:14~

Two of America's greatest leaders, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, were born during February. Washington's birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday on the third Monday in February. Some states also honor Lincoln and other American Presidents on this day and call the holiday President's Day. President's Day is celebrated in the United States.

Washington's Birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday on the third Monday in February. It honors the first President of the United States. George Washington was born on Feb. 22, 1732, according to the calendar we now use. But by the Old Style Calendar then in use, his birth date was February 11. People first celebrated the anniversary in the late 1700's, some on the 11th and some on the 22nd.

Today, some states also honor Abraham Lincoln and other Presidents on the third Monday in February and call the holiday Presidents' Day.

The United States Today: Some thoughts

"If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
~1 John 1:9~

George Washington is known to have said "Father I can not tell a lie, I cut the tree". Abraham Lincoln is know as "Honest Abe". Carter has been quoted as saying "I lusted in my mind and that is just as bad as the sin itself"

Here is a quote that I received in my email and I thought was so appropriate to add to this page:

"It is not then, in the glare of public, but in the shade of private life,
that we are to look for the man.  Private life is always real life.  Behind
the curtain, where the eyes of the million are not upon him...There he will
always be sure to act himself: consequently, if he acts greatly (in
private), he must be great indeed.  Hence it has been justly said, that,
'our private deeds, if noble, are noblest of our lives'...It is the private
virtues that lay the foundation of all human excellence."
--  M. L. Weems, "The Life of George Washington," 1800

Moral character in history was critical. Today in the world things have changed. Our words can be justified. People often say "It was just a little white lie". We don't even know who we can trust anymore. Just saying you are a "Christian" doesn't make it any easier to know whether we should trust you or not.

God's word says "A man is known by his words".

"Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right." ~Proverbs 20:11~

Are you known by your words? Did you know that we will all stand before the Lord and make an account for every word, action and deed in our lives. It may seem unimportant or harmless to you at the time but God will not be mocked. His word will stand forever.

But let us not forget what Jesus did, when the woman was to be stoned by her accusers. ~John 8:7~ He said "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." None of us are without sin!

I am not dismissing that fact that trust and morality are very important. But the Lord is the one who forgives us and gives us a second chance at life. A chance to turn our whole life over to Him. A chance to live for Him.

Let us not forget this today as our country is in a moral conflict and dilemma.

"We are to take the board out of our own eye before we take the splinter our of someone else's." ~ Matthew 7:3~ But this does not excuse any behavior or legitimize adultery, lying, or immorality.

God's word is very specific: Rev 21: 7-8 "He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

God is a loving and a just God. His word is very specific. "we shall reap what we sow"

"To whom much is given much is required." "There is no temptation taken you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful who will not tempt you beyond that which you are able. But will with that temptation make a way with which to escape"

At this time in our country, when we face so much scandal, and also with the threat of possible military action remember...........this verse below:

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
~2 Chronicles 7:14~

What should we do as Christians and Americans?

  • Pray for your leaders (politicians)
  • Become an educated and informed American Citizen
  • Vote in all the elections
  • Make your voice and opinions known
  • Call, fax and email your elected officials to make your concerns on the issues known
  • Register to vote if you haven't already

Here are some Scripture Verses about Authority:

Proverbs 29:2 "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."

Matthew 20:25-28 "Jesus called them together and said, 'You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.' "

I Timothy 2:1-3 "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;"

What did Jesus say about our leaders?
Mark 12:13-17
"Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn't we?" But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it." They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." And they were amazed at him."

God is in control. He knows the plans He has for us. He even setteth the kings and leaders in place for His purposes:

Daniel 2:21 "And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:"

Psalm 47:9 "The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted."
