What
is Queen's Day? How is it Celebrated?
"Queen's
Day, things start buzzing early, as everyone gets busy preparing
for the Vrijmarkt (free market), the biggest market in the world.
Only on this day, anyone can sell anything on the streets, and
street musicians can play without special permission. Thousands
of people (including many children) drag out old clothing, books,
and records and prepare food to sell to the crowds. In the
Vondelpark, one of the main hubs of the celebration, only
children are allowed to sell their wares. The market is famous
for incredible bargains.
This huge birthday party has been going on every year since 1948,
when Queen Juliana succeeded to the Dutch
throne as the second Dutch queen. In 1980, Juliana abdicated and
was succeeded by her daughter Beatrix, who kept her mother's
birthday as a national holiday (hers, on January 31, is too
cold). According to tradition, the Queen, her family, and members
of the royal house visit two Dutch towns on Queen's Day. The
visit is a major occasion, with singing, folk dances, and
traditional Dutch games."

Baker's Bible Dictionary tells us
this about "Adoption":
"The
Greek word for adoption (huiothesia [uiJoqesiva]) means to "place as
a son" and is used only by Paul in the New Testament. Each
of the five occurrences in his letters is to readers of a
decidedly Roman background. In one instance Paul refers to the
Old Testament idea of Israel's special position as the children
of God"Theirs is the adoption as sons" (Ro 9:4). The remaining four
references describe how New Testament believers become children
of God through his gracious choice. The full scope of God's work
of salvationpast, present, and futureis seen in
adoption."
