"And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he
was taken up; and a cloud received him out of
their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he
went up, behold, two men stood by
them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why
stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus,
which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like
manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."
~Acts 1:9-11~
Annie's Thoughts on
The Ascension:
I
have often pondered how amazing it would have been to be on the
earth when Jesus ascended......... I am
sure that the reason there were not more accounts written of what
happened is because it must have just been
an experience that words couldn't describe. I don't know about
you but I would have LOVED to have been
there when Jesus left this earth for HEAVEN!!!!!! Wouldn't that
have been AMAZING??????
It
would be even more awesome to travel back in time and be able to
peek around the crowd or even from
behind a cloud in anticipation of what we "knew"
happened. No one would have even noticed if you didn't
fit in with all the excitement. You could be there watching with
the knowledge of what would be about to
happen. You could watch the faces of all the people as they saw
that astonishing event. I am sure that
almost everyone's mouth was wide open as they stood in awe. They
were probably speechless and even gasped
for air not knowing what to say or do as the Lord rose up in the
air right in front of them. It sounds
like something no one could have even imagined or described.
It
really did happen and we do have a first hand account of what did
happen in the Bible.
It is in the New Testament in the book of Acts. It is real and it
is true.
It really did happen!!! How amazing!!! You can read the account

Here is what The
World Book Encyclopedia says about The Ascension Day:
"Ascension: The end of the Easter
season. During the 40-day period beginning with Easter Sunday,
Christians celebrate the time when Jesus reappeared to some of
His followers. This period ends on
Ascension Day, or Ascension Thursday. On this day, the story of
Jesus' rise to heaven is read in churches.
In Catholic churches, the Easter paschal candle is put out on
Ascension Day. The Easter season concludes
10 days later with the feast of Pentecost, when the apostles
reported that the Holy Spirit had
entered into them. Christians believe that the church began at
that time."
Here is what
Compton's Encyclopedia says about The Ascension:
"Ascension, in Christianity, the
ascent of Jesus into heaven, as described in the New Testament;
marked
by a feast occurring 40 days after Easter, which celebrates the
resurrection; concept also appears in the
Old Testament story of Elijah and in the myths of other cultures.
Ascension Day is Forty days after Easter.
Here is what
Compton's Encyclopedia says about Whitsunday:
Whitsunday, or Pentecost is Fifty
days after Easter.
Here is what
Compton's Encyclopedia says about Novena:
Novena, in Roman Catholicism, nine days of
devotion, public or private, to obtain special graces;
adopted from Apostles' nine days of prayer between Ascension and
Pentecost.
Here is what Compton's Encyclopedia says about Rogation Day:
Rogation Days, in Christianity, the
three days before Ascension Day, observed in early church by
fasting
and chanting of litanies in public processions; introduced by
French bishop in 5th century; still observed
in minor degree by Episcopal and Roman Catholic churches."
